Check list for buying a used car

Buying a car can be a daunting experience, if that car is used it usually comes with a long list of things to consider. Forget the he says, she says everyone tells you! Take this checklist with you and you should be fine from beginning to end!

o DO YOUR RESEARCH

o DECIDE ON THE TYPE OF VEHICLE YOU WANT

o DECIDE ON THE EXACT MAKE AND MODEL YOU WANT

o SET A BUDGET

o CHECK THE VEHICLE HAS LOG BOOKS AND HAS BEEN FULLY MAINTAINED

o IF POSSIBLE, ASK A MECHANIC TO CHECK THE VEHICLE OVER

o SIMPLE CHECKS TO DO YOUR SELF;

o LOOK UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE FOR ANY OIL LEAKS

o CHECK FOR ANY OTHER FLUID LEAKS UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE OR ON THE FLOOR UNDERNEATH WHERE IT IS PARKED

o ENSURE ALL TYRES ARE IN GOOD CONDITION WITH GOOD TREAD DEPTH, CHECK THE SPARE TYRE

o ALL HEAD LIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS, PARK LIGHTS, REVERSE LIGHTS AND INDICATORS ARE WORKING

o CHECK FOR ANY WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH

o ALL EQUIPMENT IS WORKING – AIRCON, WINDOWS, AUDIO SYSTEM, NAVIGATION, PARKING SENSORS AND CAMERA

o JACK AND TOOL KIT ARE IN THE CAR AND WORKING WELL

o CHECK FOR ANY PHYSICAL DAMAGE – INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR

o TAKE THE CAR FOR A TEST DRIVE

o CHECK FOR ANY ILLEGAL MODIFICATIONS

o CHECK THE AMOUNT OF REGISTRATION REMAINING

o GET A PPSR/REVS CHECK https://www.carhistory.com.au/ppsr

o WHEN NEGOTIATING A PRICE, BE READY TO BUY OR ATLEAST LEAVE A DEPOSIT. THIS WILL SHOW THE SELLER YOU ARE A SERIOUS BUYER.

o USE ANY ISSUES/DAMAGE ON THE VEHICLE AS LEVERAGE TO ASK FOR A LOWER PRICE I.E. REGISTRAION NEARLY FINISHED, NEEDS NEW TYRES, NEEDS A SERVICE, HAS NO WARRANTY, ANY DENTS OR SCRATCHES.

o GET INSURANCE

o DO YOUR PAPERWORK

o VEHICLE TRANSFER FORM
